TODAY

• Eid Mubarak! One of Islam’s biggest holidays, Eid al-Adha, begins. The Festival of Sacrifice marks the height of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It commemorates the appearance of God to Ibrahim, also known as Abraham, to command him to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience.

• The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks. The sky puts on a show early this week (though the moon may steal some of its luster).

• The President takes a summer hiatus in New Jersey. Donald Trump is spending 10 days at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, as Congress continues its August recess. The President is away from Washington as he and top aides mull legislative and executive options on gun control in the wake of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio. Also front and center are the trade war with China and fallout from ICE raids.

• The Premier League season is here. A slew of players, including American Christian Pulisic, debut with new clubs. Read our predictions for the 2019-20 season.

• Simone Biles and Sam Mikulak aim to make history. Both could win a record sixth all-around title at the US Gymnastics Championships. Watch starting at 4 p.m. ET on NBC.

MONDAY

• Ex-Obama White House counsel goes on trial. Greg Craig mounts a courtroom defense in connection with his alleged failure to tell the Justice Department in 2013 that he’d worked with Paul Manafort as a paid agent of Ukrainian politicians, prosecutors allege. A judge last week threw out a second charge.

• Bill Cosby’s legal team pushes for a new trial. A Pennsylvania appeals court is due to hear the legendary comedian’s argument for why he should be tried again. Cosby was sentenced last year to three to 10 years in a state prison for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004 at his home.

WEDNESDAY

• Child victims’ 1-year ‘window’ opens in New York. Adults who suffered sexual abuse as children can start filing lawsuits in cases going back decades. The measure faced stiff opposition from Catholic bishops and the insurance industry and could have ramifications for Jeffrey Epstein’s estate.

2 nations mark independence amid turmoil. Pakistan — then India, a day later — observe national independence at a time of tense relations between the neighbors. Pakistan last week announced it would downgrade diplomatic relations and suspend trade with India after New Delhi moved to take more control of the disputed state of Kashmir.

THURSDAY

• Woodstock turns 50. The legendary music festival kicked off a half-century ago in Bethel, New York, with nearly 400,000 attendees and acts including Jimi Hendrix, the Who and Janis Joplin. But don’t count on reliving the grime and glory: The Woodstock 50 festival, with headliners Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus and Halsey, was canceled.

Did you miss that pink sky?

Did you miss that pink sky?

On Monday, there was a proliferation of “pink sky” shots sent in by listeners.  Followed by obligatory, condescending “explanation of phenomenon” by meteorologists.  Best example I’ve ever seen…lasted 5 mins, or so at Henson’s Gap/Lewis Chapel Mtn., overlooking Dunlap, Tn.  Launch ramp of “Tennessee TreeToppers” hanggliding club.

I boycotted the NFL for 2 years.   And I had a good reason….not faux-outrage from the right nor the left. But I digress. I hear the calls for protests…for boycotts of the NFL over Colin Kaepernick’s not being signed by any NFL team as quarterback.  They say it’s because of the former 49’ers QB’s…
