SPRING CITY, Tennessee (WDEF) – TDOT is getting close to fixing the slide in Rhea County, but not before more inconvenience to residents of Grandview.
A section of State Route 68 slid down the mountain north of Spring City in the spring.
The slide cut off people in the Grandview community on top of the mountain from the valley.
For the last few months of work, the road has been reduced to one lane.
But for the final push, TDOT will have to shut it down again on Monday (July 16) for a couple of days.
They need the space to rebuild the outside lane, including backfilling with new material, paving and putting up new guardrails.
TDOT officials say closing the road will save them a week’s worth of construction time.
