Steve Davis, Elon Musk’s chief lieutenant at the Department of Government Efficiency, is also leaving the agency, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
The Journal cited the White House for Davis’ exit.
Davis’ departure comes one day after Musk announced he was leaving the Trump administration to return full time to his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX.
Davis was Musk’s No. 2 at DOGE, handling day-to-day operations, including hirings and firings, according to the report. Davis serves as president of Musk’s Boring Co. and has worked for Musk for more than two decades.
As of May 26, DOGE has slashed $175 billion from the federal budget, according to figures from its website.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced Wednesday he was ready to move forward with legislation to codify a portion of the cuts, roughly $9.4 billion. The cuts will focus on National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Service, as well as foreign aid agencies.
