Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday announced that American taxpayers would save $13 billion that was being held in government accounts targeted for use on what he called former President Joe Biden’s “Green New Scam” agenda.
Wright said the massive amount of spending involves “unobligated funds” initially appropriated to advance the previous administration’s green energy and climate policies.
The Secretary said in a release that, “The American people elected President Trump largely because of the last administration’s reckless spending on climate policies that fed inflation and failed to provide any real benefit to the American people.”
One of President Donald Trump’s initial Executive Orders following his January inauguration focused on energy production and eliminating billions being spent on solar and wind projects while favoring fossil fuels and nuclear power.
Wright said, “By returning these funds to the American taxpayer, the Trump administration is affirming its commitment to advancing more affordable, reliable and secure American energy and being more responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.”
Unobligated funding is not a new thing to the U.S. government. There’s so much money being held in that fashion that Congress has established guidelines for holding and spending taxpayer dollars that haven’t been used for what they were intended.
