Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., blasted critics on social media after he called for the United States to cut off military aid to Israel as it wages war against Palestinian terror group Hamas.
“Nothing can justify the number of civilian casualties (tens of thousands of women and children) inflicted by Israel in Gaza in the last two years,” Massie wrote on X late Thursday. “We should end all U.S. military aid to Israel now.”
Massie, a conservative Republican with libertarian leanings, has regularly voted against pro-Israel legislation in the House, including all three of the aid bills for the Jewish state in the aftermath of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack.
In an exchange highlighted by Mediaite, Massie replied to a podcast host’s response to his X post.
“We should absolutely end all aid,” the podcaster reportedly wrote. “Just did a quick search of your page, not a single admonition for Hamas not to attack, not to hide military assets behind civilians, anything.”
In his reply, the Kentucky congressman pointed out that in 2023 he voted in favor of a resolution that called on Hamas “to immediately release hostages taken during October 2023 attack on Israel.”
“Why are you spreading Hamas propaganda again?” Washington Examiner writer David Harsanyi asked Massie. “Are you a fan or just credulous?”
Another user wrote back to Massie, saying, “You just told us you’re not a Christian without saying it.”
“I disagree with your version of Christianity if it requires endorsing the deaths of women and children on behalf of any country,” Massie responded.
Massie also told another user, whose account is now set to private, that he holds a differing opinion on the subject of loss of life in Gaza.
“Sounds like you feel the death of 50,000 women and children is justified, and that more such deaths are necessary?” he wrote. “I disagree.”
