Driving Our Economy Forward: Droop Scoops

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WDEF) — Located in the heart of historic Downtown Chickamauga, Droop Scoops is a family-owned ice cream and coffee shop.  When you walk through the front door you will find many young adults not only enjoying a scoop of ice cream delivered from Michigan but also spending time with friends.

Let’s see how Droop Scoops is driving our economy forward.

Owner Marla Prince said, “I’d like to invite all of y’all to droop scoops. My dad’s nickname in school was Droop Doran, so I named the Droop part after him. And, of course, scoops for ice cream scoops, or as everybody else says, to get the latest gossip, the scoop. I’m third generation living here. My parents went to Gordon Lee and graduated. I went to Gordon Lee and graduated, and my two girls went to Gordon Lane and graduated.”

Marla says she wanted to open the ice cream shop within walking distance to Gordon Lee High School and Chickamauga Elementary School.  Her daughters were in the band at Gordon Lee.   “So, I thought that the community needed something that the kids could enjoy and be in walking distance for them to come hang out with their friends. says Marla.

The owners say they make their own waffle cones and have old fashioned banana splits.

Prince continues, “You cannot go to the store and purchase my ice cream locally or my drinks.  So, my ice cream is from Michigan, and then my drinks are from New Jersey.  If people are going to treat themselves. I want it to be an ice cream. They can’t go to the store and buy, but it’ll be something that they can get here.”
