I 24 & I 75 merge project switching to final traffic configuration

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – It’s a mile maker, if you will, in the I 24/75 project in Chattanooga.

The goals of the whole project are replacing old bridges and interstate structures that date back to the 1950’s.

And to completely change the traffic flow “crossover” as the two instates merge.

This weekend, crews will change the traffic flow to the final pattern.

But that is going to make this weekend’s traffic something to avoid.

We told you that TDOT is working on the Germantown Road Bridge, which will force them to detour traffic off of I-24.

But the traffic change will also create another detour further up the line.

It will require shutting down lanes coming out of Georgia and creating a temporary ramp onto I 24.

Also the Ringgold road exit will be closed.

The switch is scheduled to last all weekend, but could be finished earlier.

When it is finished, it will look a lot different, so be careful and follow traffic instructions.

Of course, the best advice is to avoid the area if at all possible until Monday morning.
