Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Union Gospel Mission hosted their annual Thanksgiving with the homeless event Wednesday. The event ran from 11-2 at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
Union Gospel Mission served a full Thanksgiving meal to those in attendance. They also handed out clothing and hygiene supplies.
Jon Rector with the Union Gospel Mission said, “It’s a way to give back. This time of year is hard. Depression runs highest during the holidays. For a lot of the folks we serve some may not have a place to live necessarily. Some could be in shelters. Some may be going through financially hard times. It’s just our way to show our love to the community, give back and be a blessing to people.”
Officials with the Union Gospel Mission estimated they would give out more than 400 meals by the time the event ended.
